Meet The Team

  • Veterinary Surgeons

    Our Small Animal Veterinary Team not only offer routine services such as neutering and vaccinations but also specialise in a range of fields. Our Veterinary Surgeons have Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificates or Diplomas in Small Animal Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology and Small Animal Medicine.

  • Alan Banks

    Alan Banks - BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Alan qualified from Liverpool University Veterinary School in 1993 and since then he has worked in dedicated small animal practice. He joined Nantwich Veterinary Group in 1996 and became a partner in 2003.

    In 2000 he obtained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology and he now regularly takes eye referrals from other vets. His interests include the treatment of corneal diseases, eyelid reconstructive surgery and cataract surgery. He has been a committee member of the British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and regularly attends their meetings. Alan has also been involved with design and construction of the our surgeries in Market Drayton, Crewe and Nantwich.

    In his spare time Alan is a keen mountain biker and also enjoys canoeing with his family.

  • Alan Mayo

    Alan Mayo - BVSc CertSAS MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Alan qualified from Liverpool University Veterinary School in 1993 and has spent most of his professional life with the practice.

    He obtained the Certificate of Small Animal Surgery in 1997 and is one of the main surgeons of the hospital. He accepts referrals in both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery and his interests include fracture repair, spinal surgery and TTA for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament failure and stifle arthritis. He was the joint recipient of the Dunkin Award in 2001.

  • Tom Gilding

    Tom Gilding - BSc BVSc CertSAS MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Tom started at the University of Liverpool in 1997 studying for a degree in Physiology and qualified with honours in July 2000.

    Following on from this degree he gained a place on the veterinary course at Liverpool starting September 2000. On graduation in July 2004 he joined Nantwich Veterinary Group and he became a partner in 2013. Tom gained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2008.

    Outside the practice he enjoys playing football and competing with his dogs at agility and flyball competitions.

  • Menai Heyes

    Menai Heyes - MA VetMB CertAVP(SAM) MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Menai graduated from Cambridge University in 2006. She jointed the team at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital after a few years working as a small animal vet in Anglesey. 

    In January 2016 she achieved the RCVS certificate in Small Animal Medicine. Menai also has a keen interest in endoscopy and diagnostic imaging, in particular the use of ultrasound for further investigation of cases. She thoroughly enjoys using her knowledge of medicine and imaging to diagnose and treat complex medical cases. She welcomes all medical referrals, including challenging cases and those with limited funds. She is passionate about finding a diagnosis and improving the quality of life for all her patients.

    Menai spends her free time with her young family and beautiful pets Flynn the Labrador and Viva the cat. She escapes for a run or swim whenever the opportunity arises!Menai graduated from Cambridge University in 2006 and worked for a small animal practice on Anglesey for two and a half years before joining the team at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital in May 2009. She attained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2016.

    Her interests outside veterinary medicine include sailing, scuba diving and hill walking with her two dogs, Rio and Flynn.

  • Matthew Smith

    Matthew Smith - BVetMed GPCert(SAS) CertAVP(GSAS) MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Matt graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2005 and moved to Nantwich Veterinary Group in 2011. He completed a General Practitioner certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2012 and the RCVS General Small Animal Surgery certificate in 2015. His interests are in both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. Matt is also a qualified ski instructor and has spent winters teaching in Canada and Italy.

  • Dervla Martin

    Dervla Martin - DVM (Hons) CertAVP(GSAS) MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Dervla graduated in 2010. She joined Nantwich Veterinary Group in 2013 and is working towards a RCVS certificate in small animal surgery. She has also had further training in ultrasonography and endoscopy. Her Jack Russell Terrier keeps her busy and she travels home to Ireland when she can for a good pint of Guinness.

  • Fiona Allsop

    Fiona Allsop - BSc BVSc GPCert(SAM) MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Fiona qualified from Liverpool University in 2006. She worked in a small animal practice in Derby for a year before moving to Shropshire and she joined Nantwich Vet Group in 2011.

    She has a particular interest in small animal medicine, gaining the general practitioner certificate in small animal medicine in 2010, and is currently studying for the RCVS certificate in small animal medicine.

    Away from veterinary work she enjoys playing netball.

  • Angela Manson

    Angela Manson - BVetMed MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Angie qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004. She worked in mixed practice for 4 years before moving home and joining the team at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital in 2008.

    She enjoys all aspects of small animal work and in particular feline medicine. She is currently studying for the RCVS certificate in small animal medicine. Outside work she enjoys spending time with her lovely cats Marley and Alfie, all outdoor activities and retail therapy!

  • Eve Towlson

    Eve Towlson - BVSc MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Eve graduated from the University of Liverpool with distinction in 2013 and joined the team at Nantwich Veterinary Group shortly afterwards. She is currently working towards her RCVS certificate in small animal medicine whilst also enjoying all aspects of soft tissue surgery and imaging. Outside work Eve enjoys racquet sports, netball, baking and eating chocolate.

  • Georgina Mourant

    Georgina Mourant - BVSc MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Georgie qualified in 2012 and joined Nantwich Veterinary Group as a new graduate. Her special interests include orthopaedic surgery and dermatology. She commenced studying for a certificate in surgery in January 2015. Georgie's main passions in life include her home island of Jersey, her Landrover defender and an enthusiasm for talking.

  • Rachel Meakin

    Rachel Meakin - BVetMed MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Rachel graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2007. She joined the team at Nantwich Veterinary Group in March 2014. She is currently working towards her RCVS certificate in small animal medicine and has a keen interest in ultrasonography. She likes exploring new places on long walks with her 8 year old 'Boxador' Tody and she also enjoys Ceroc dancing in her spare time.

  • James Meredith

    James Meredith - BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    James spent time at Nantwich Veterinary Group during his studies and he joined the practice after he qualified from The Royal Veterinary College in 2013. His main interest is in canine and feline medicine, however he also enjoys treating rabbits, poultry and ferrets. He is currently studying towards a certificate in small animal medicine and has been on courses in oncology, ultrasonography and endoscopy.

    James does a lot of work for the RSPCA and as a result has a menagerie of animals at home.

  • Emma Stockton

    Emma Stockton - DipAVN(Small Animal) RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Emma joined the Practice in 1997 as a trainee veterinary nurse at our previous site in Barker Street. She moved with the Practice to the purpose built hospital and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2001. She has a keen interest in small animal dentistry and gained her BVNA Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Dentistry in 2003. Emma then went on to train as an assessor and gained her A1 assessor qualification in 2004.

    In October 2004 Emma was promoted to the role of Head Nurse and now currently manages a team of 12 qualified nurses, 13 student nurses and 2 nursing assistants. Emma is dedicated to all aspects of veterinary nurse training and in 2007 she gained her RCVS Examiners Certificate. She now actively examines the nursing practical examinations on behalf of the RCVS. Emma is an in-house Clinical Coach for the Student Nurses.

    Wishing to further her clinical knowledge and skills, Emma embarked on the Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Veterinary Nursing in 2007 which she gained in 2009. This then allowed entry to complete the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Small Animal) which she gained in 2010. Emma enjoys all aspects of her job especially medical nursing and diagnostic imaging. She has an interest in oncology cases and chemotherapy protocols.

    In her spare time Emma enjoys spending time with her family including her young daughter Ellie, caring for her horse and walking her dogs.

  • Laura Scott

    Laura Scott - DipAVN(Small Animal) RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Laura worked for the Practice as a Saturday girl from 1998 whilst studying for GCSEs and A Levels. She commenced full time employment in 2001 as a student Veterinary Nurse and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2003. Laura has been actively involved with student nurse training and she completed her A1 Assessors qualification in 2005. Laura also has a keen interest in dentistry and was awarded the BVNA Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Dentistry in 2006. She was promoted to Deputy Head Nurse in 2008. Striving to advance in her Veterinary Nursing career Laura embarked on the Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Veterinary Nursing in 2007 which she gained in 2009. This then allowed entry to complete the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Small Animal) which she gained in 2010. Laura is an in-house Clinical Coach for the Student Nurses.

    Lauras main interest is surgical nursing and surgically assisting with soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery including as a scrub nurse for hip replacement surgery.

    Laura enjoys spending time with her pets, Jess and Gary and she enjoys vegetarian cooking and reading.

  • Simone Bennett

    Simone Bennett - DipAVN(Surgical) DipAVN(Medical) RVN

    Simone started work as a nurse in December 1987. She qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from RCVS in 1993 and went on to study for the Diploma in Advance Veterinary Nursing, Surgical and Medical, in 2002 and 2005

    Simone joined Nantwich Veterinary Group in December 2010 as Head Nurse of our Hospital in Crewe.

    In her spare time Simone can usually be found in her garden, walking her dogs and taking care of the various pets she has.

  • Mandy Ledward

    Mandy Ledward - DipAVN(Small Animal) RVN

    Mandy began working with Nantwich Veterinary Group as a Saturday girl on reception at the age of 16 while still at school. She then began training to be a Veterinary Nurse in 2003 and qualified in 2006. Mandy was awarded the British Veterinary Nursing Association Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Dentistry in 2008 and she attained the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing in 2012. Mandy is a Clinical Coach for the Student Nurses.Mandy has two rescue dogs, Pip and Rocky; two mischievous Rex rabbits, Opal and Otis; and last but not least, a cat called Ollie.

  • Sarah Bloor

    Sarah Bloor - DipAVN(Small Animal) RVN

    Sarah left school in 2005 after completing her GCSEs and immediately joined Nantwich Veterinary Group. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2008. She has a passion for rabbits and guinea pigs, and has a trio at home; Harvey, Toffee and Poppy. She also has a keen interest in weight management; carrying out clinics to guide clients through their pets weight loss. Sarah is health conscious, being a vegetarian and going to the gym in her spare time. She is currently working towards the Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Veterinary Nursing.

  • Mandy Howes

    Mandy Howes - RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Mandy joined the Practice in 1987 and has been a dedicated nurse at the Practice ever since. She took a two year break in 1995 to have her two children Shannon and Kenny. Mandys main interest is cardiology and she is our designated cardiology nurse for three days a week to support and assist our two cardiologists. Mandy also has a keen interest in surgical nursing and regularly assists our surgeons in theatre. Mandy enjoys spending time with her family and her two English bull terriers.

  • Heather Metcalfe

    Heather Metcalfe - RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Heather joined us in 2003 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2005. In 2007 she gained her BVNA Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Dentistry. She is interested in all aspects of small animal nursing, taking a keen interest in orthopaedics. Heather is responsible for our surgical instruments and theatre consumables; she also assists the Veterinary Surgeons with the Total Hip Replacement operations.

    In her spare time Heather enjoys camping, walking, reading and spending time with family and friends and her two cats Aggie and Bert.

  • Marcia Robinson

    Marcia Robinson - RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Marcia started working at the practice in 2002 as a trainee nurse aged 16 still awaiting her GCSE results. Marcia qualified in 2006 after starting her training in 2003. After returning to work from having her son Charlie, Marcia qualified as an assessor and has been awarded the BVNA Veterinary Nurse Certificate in Dentistry. Marcia is interested in all aspects of nursing care and has a keen interest in small animal dentistry. Marcia is a Clinical Coach for the Student Nurses.

    Marcia enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking and DIY. She mostly enjoys spending time with her sons Charlie and Lucas, and baking and swimming.

  • Jo Richardson

    Jo Richardson - RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Jo joined the practice in 2005 after completing her GCSEs. She completed an animal care course during her first year at the practice, going on to qualify as a veterinary nurse in January 2009. Jos main professional interest lies within ophthalmic nursing and she routinely assists our in house ophthalmic surgeon. She is responsible for preparing for all ophthalmic procedures, taking care of the equipment and ordering stock. Jos pets are Eddie the Boxer dog and a cat called Eyes who is cross-eyed.

    In her spare time Jo enjoys spending time with family and friends and going to music festivals.

    Becky joined the Practice as a trainee nurse at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital in 2008 and qualified in January 2011. She became head nurse at our Market Drayton Surgery in 2012. She is also a qualified Petplan pet insurance adviser.

    In her spare time Becky captains our very own netball team, NVG Swifts; and keeps herself busy riding her horse, walking her three dogs and looking after her four cats.

    Prior to starting work at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital in 2009 Kim completed an animal management certificate at Reaseheath College. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2012. Kim is currently the practice nurse at our Nantwich hospital and runs the nurse clinics. Outside work Kim spends time with her 2 cats, Loki and Larni and her Australian Silky Terrier, Ozzy. In her spare time Kim plays for the NVG Swifts netball team and takes part in beauty pageants.

    Sarah has worked at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital since 2008 and completed her training to become a registered veterinary nurse in 2012. Sarah enjoys working in the kennel area looking after the inpatients and her primary role is developing and maintaining inpatient care. In her spare time Sarah enjoys baking and spending time with her dogs.

    Tyesha has worked at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital since June 2012. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in January 2016. She has a special interest in in-patient and emergency care. 

    Outside work she enjoys walking Lola, her pomeranian dog and playing for NVG Swifts netball team.

    Amy Hickman - RVN

    Nantwich Veterinary Hospital

    Amy started working at Nantwich Veterinary Hospital in January 2015, after moving from a veterinary practice, in Birmingham, which specialised in exotic animals. She has worked in veterinary practice since 2007 and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in September 2012. Amy enjoys all aspects of nursing but particularly enjoys the medical management of inpatients and looking after them in the kennel area. Amy takes a special interest in working with all exotic species, cats, bulldogs and greyhounds.
    At home Amy enjoys going for walks in the countryside with her whippet Rascal and relaxing with friends and family. She also has 2 cats, Cookie and Monster.
